Can you imagine the surprise of Mary and Joseph as they sought a place where Mother Mary could give birth to the King of Kings, and they saw a wreath like this hanging on the door to welcome The Holy Family? Would they feel welcome?
"In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered. This was the first registration and was taken while Quirinius was governor of Syria. All went to their own towns to be registered. Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David. He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child. While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn."
Luke 2: 1-7
There was no wreath to greet Mary and Joseph. There was cold. Mary must have shivered as Jesus was born, yet, her joy could not be contained. When she kissed His Precious forehead, she kissed the face of God! He was the great I AM born among the animals with His only crib being a feeder for the animals there. Do you feel the cold? The animals must have bowed in reverence to their King. How blessed these creatures were!
Then the shepherds were awakened by a chorus of angels singing in praise of the new born king. Only the poor and the humble were blessed to be in adoration where he lay in a stable, cold, the best that His parents could provide for Him. Oh, blessed were those invited when heaven touched earth.
“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace among those whom he favors!"
Luke 2: 14
Heaven touched earth.
The great I AM,
The Word Who was with God,
The Word Who was God,
became one of us,
and
nothing would ever be the same again.
