St. Michael Prayer

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do, thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the Power of God, cast into hell satan and all of the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Glory to God in the Highest!

Journey through Lent: Carrying our crosses

Public Domain Wikimedia Commons
Then he said to all,
“If anyone wishes to come after me, he must deny himself
and take up his cross daily and follow me.
For whoever wishes to save his life will lose it,
but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it.
What profit is there for one to gain the whole world
yet lose or forfeit himself?”
Luke 9: 24-25

What does it mean to take up your cross daily?
Crosses = sufferings.
Don't we have enough suffering in our world?  Shouldn't we seek to eliminate suffering, not only in our lives, but in the lives of others?
Why should we embrace our crosses?

The answer to that question is never easy.
Why do we see babies get sick and die?
Why are Christians, men, women and children, tortured, burned alive, and beheaded because they refuse to deny Jesus?
Why does God allow the suffering of a family member or friend.
Why must I bear that burden, my cross?

The answer is in this name.
Our God,
who took on our human nature and willingly suffered and died so that we might be saved.
Jesus, who chose the will of the Father, knowing and seeing the pain, the rejection, the suffering for love of us.
The God-Man accepted the torture.  The God-Man, whose blood was shed that we might live, prayed with great love that we might be saved.

Jesus, whose love for us was greater than any other love that could be, gave His life for us.
Jesus, Our God.
Jesus, Our Brother.
Jesus, both divine and human.
Jesus bore His cross for love of us.

When your cross becomes heavy,
reach out to Jesus.
Life your cross high.
The Cross is the anchor.
The Cross is the key that opens heaven for us.

We cannot escape suffering.
Suffering is inevitable in life.
We can choose how we will bear our crosses.
We can choose to bear them with love for Him and others,
we can bear them with bitterness and sorrow.

One choice decreases the weight of each cross.  The other does not.
How will you carry your cross?

Today's prayer intention:  All persecuted Christians in the world.
