St. Michael Prayer

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our safeguard against the wickedness and snares of the devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do, thou, O Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the Power of God, cast into hell satan and all of the evil spirits who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Glory to God in the Highest!

A Quandry When Trying to Live the Beatitudes

You don't see this often in smaller towns.  Look closely at this picture, and you'll see a man at an exit of a highway, holding a sign and asking for money.  You often see the same person at the same location many days in a row.  Depending on the person, you might see a very expensive bike in the bushes.  Once in a while, you might see small children with them.  For me, it's a very difficult call.  Do I stop and give them some money or not?

There are those who brag that they make a great living begging.  There are those who have no other alternative than to beg.  How do you know the difference?  I don't.  I know there is great poverty in this world, both spiritually and financially.  How do I know?

Then he looked up at his disciples and said:

“Blessed are you who are poor,
for yours is the kingdom of God.

“Blessed are you who are hungry now,
    for you will be filled.
“Blessed are you who weep now,
    for you will laugh.

“Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude you, revile you, and defame you on account of the Son of Man.
Rejoice in that day and leap for joy, for surely your reward is great in heaven; for that is what their ancestors did to the prophets.

Luke. 6: 20-23

Did Jesus mean, I don't have to make the decision, that I should just stop and give?
Did Jesus mean that, in serving, I have to decide in a split second to give or not?
Did Jesus mean, let him take care of this?

I don't know.  If I can help, I want to help.

What would you do?  I'm really stuck on this one.
